One day, after many years working
in an advertising agency, I decided
to take a leap of faith and do my
own thing. When I set out I didn't
know what 'my own thing' was
going to be, all I knew was I had a
lot of ideas bubbling away in the far
reaches of my brain and had to
explore them. I became an artist
producing paintings, videos and
artists books. I made a documentary
about an English orchestra in China,
and then I returned to my first love,
illustrating. There is something
about creating and exploring other
worlds that fascinates me. I've always
been interested in children's picture
books, and when I found myself
reading them long after the children
had gone to bed, I realised that
writing and illustrating children's
picture books is what I want to do.
